Decoloniality, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at SeeChange Initiative

Many DEI initiatives fail to achieve the change and social justice outcomes organizations had hoped for. Why? The root cause lies in the deep-set colonial mindset that persists both in our social systems and within each of us.

Is it time for a new DEI mindset?

Many DEI initiatives fail to achieve the change and social justice outcomes organizations had hoped for. Why? The root cause lies in the deep-set colonial mindset that persists both in our social systems and within each of us.

For DEI to be impactful and sustainable, we believe we need a new approach. The first step is to actively “decolonize our minds”.

That starts with us stopping to presume we know what’s best for a community in crisis. Identifying implicit bias opens us to listen and learn from communities still suffering from colonization’s far-reaching effects.

So, is it time for a new DEI mindset? Yes, most definitely! At SeeChange we are leveling up our game by adding a D to DEI – and that D is for Decoloniality.

Take a look at our CommunityFirst D-DEI Framework which serves as a theory-backed, practical approach to fostering D-DEI across SeeChange. It can be applied and customized to any organization, and is adaptable and non-colonial.

It is a living, open-source document that invites all who work with it to examine their feelings, reactions, and motives.

Rejoignez notre voyage!
